I have done the pool shot.  I set the shutter speed to 2 seconds and used the timer to operate the shutter.  When I heard the shutter go I whacked the cue ball and sent them flying.  The picture needs some improving but it does work.  Dropping the orange presents a different set of issues but maybe the comments about the pool shot will give some more ideas.  Good luck.  Let us know if you solve it.
